It's simple: get 'em! Just make an appointment at a travel clinic or infectious deasise specialist and tell them where you're going. When you get there they'll offer you the CDC recommendations. Yes, some of the shots or pills can be pricey but they far outweigh the cost of treatment. Besides, many of the shots last for several years and some a lifetime! I've know 2 people who've had Hepatitis and it lays you up for a few months, damages your liver and makes it so you can't drink for a year! It's pretty common but is preventable for a lifetime with just 2 shots~ Again, go!! Plus, a number of countries require you to show proof that you've had a yellow fever shot before you can even enter the country. Tags: advice shots health immunization |

inside my Kathmandu apartment (a decade ago) What do you do when you walk into a bathroom only to find a hole in the floor? Turn around & hold it? But what if those little drops of what you knew was bad water on your plate last night are doing the rumba in your belly? - First, take a depth breath & realize you CAN do this. The little local 3yr olds do.
- Now there are several different models. The most common are somewhat oblong with the hole on one side & the other side slightly higher than the hole's side. Face away from the hole.
- Place a foot on each side of the hole. Most have 12" ledges on each side specifically for your feet.
- Now squat. Use your legs. DON'T TOUCH THE GROUND. It will be gross!
- Do your business.
most are NOT this gross - There won't be any toilet paper. So lucky you if you've brought your own. Otherwise, look for water. Once you spot the water, there should be a cup in it or nearby. Simply fill the cup with water, hold it in your right hand & slowly pour the water down your butt. Then take your left hand & rub the dirty areas. You CAN do this. I've done this & I screamed when I've seen dog poo on a sidewalk. The thought of it seems terribly gross but it really isn't... there have been studies that show this actually leaves you cleaner. And just think of all those trees you're saving!
- While you're getting the hang of this, you'll probably get wetter than you'd like so I'd suggest taking your hand & using it as a squeegee so your clothes don't stick to you too much.
- Then take another scoop of water to clean up... pour more water over your hand... & your feet if you splashed... finally "clean" the hole by pouring the rest of the water over the raised area.
- Congratulate yourself, you did it! Now go find some antibacterial soap.
