It just amazes me how (east) Indians are everywhere. No matter the country, if you're in a big city, odds are there's a "little India" part of town. Nairobi's no exception. But with one big difference... unlike anything I've ever seen, the Indians here the elite - very wealthy & high status. Haven't figured out why... locals blacks told me the Indians are shred businessmen. But sure there's another reason. Like most of the Indian diaspora, Kenya's Indian population is about 2-3 generations old & the result of English bringing over cheaper labor to their Kenyan colony. And recent settlements of Indians have now in Middle Eastern countries as slaves for oil companies. Prior to this trip, put together a list of over 200 cities might wanna visit & over 100 bits of info for each city (avg hotel price, weather, HDI ranking, world heritage sites, etc.). (I'm anal. I admit it. And if you're interested in it, email me.) Some of this info includes which cities have large populations of Indians... gotta real interest in all things Indian, complete with a degree in South Asian Studies... fascinating how far & wide Indians have settled. Indians make up a big % of the total population in:
And there's large groups of Indians in: England, Grenada, Jamaica, Kenya, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Yemen, Zambia & Zimbabwe. Tags: Kenya |
