Being in an Islamic area was keen to dust off my Arabic. In an area where tourists might know a few Swahili words, instantly impressed my audience with Arabic. Showing off more, threw in that I'd fasted during Ramadan. (Ok, not the traditional no food or drink during daylight... skipped lunch every day but that's a fast in my dictionary.) Next thing I know, I'm at this family's house being served lunch & with an even larger serving of 'we wanna convert you'. Two hours later... full from the bad food & even worse dogma, tried to make my escape. But the husband, a jeweler & very clever man... mentioned that he offers fantastic prices to fellow Muslims. Freedom & cheap jewelry verses Jesus... almost instantly spit out "You're right! There is no God but Allah & Mohamed is his prophet." Today, after he repairs a necklace for free, we're off to visit his sister-in-law's beauty salon for a great price on a manicure & pedicure. Plus, he's gotta connection on a saling trip & a tailor. Christians... Jews... Buddhists... anyone wanna counter? Offering my eternal soul to the highest bidder! Tags: Kenya |
