I'm currently in the state of Tamil Nadu. Each state in India is pretty unique. And this one is one of my favs because of the temples. temple detail Each temple in Tamil Nadu usually has 8 different towers each over 200ft high & covered with crazy, Disney-like or erotic carvings painted bright, wild colors. And inside these temples, lots of saddhus - wandering holy men who walk around dirty, half naked & stoned - plus an elephant or two & loads of monkeys. And sometimes there's a band or people chanting. saddhus - wandering holy men the lingum in the temple's sanctum And in the very center of half of these temples is a giant penis sticking out of a giant vagina... which really isn't about sex. It's supposed to represent the universe's procreative force. One of the funniest rituals I ever saw involved a priest pouring milk over the top of the penis which looked too much like... well, ya know. I just love the temples here. I could spend hours inside each one. It's like watching the circus. Tags: India
