India, the world's largest democracy, is getting ready to have a big election. Huge, not big, they've got 750 MILLION voters! And due to the need for police at the polls, their not even gonna vote on the same day... they're spreading it out over a month. But this is all kinda scary. Elections are one of the big times for violence. And hence the need for all these police. India's even kicked their big sporting event, scheduled for the same time, outta the country because of security. Even worse, 3 days ago several bombs went off in one state & yesterday a bomb was found on a train in another state. However these incidents were both in states that have lots of problems. So the plan is to avoid these areas (for now... hope to be in Kashmir around June) & I've got a copy of the voting schedule so I'll just stay outta each state while their voting. And in the meantime... its fun watching the political games. One big guy's already dropped out. And am getting some good laughs outta the slogans... "India can! Indian will!"... a take on Obama maybe? And even more Obama... one news station is saying "stay tuned for the search for India's Obama". Tags: India |
