One nice thing about having a population of a billion plus is that you can get super cheap labor. So Indians have a servant for everything! Even in the expensive metros you can get someone to wash your car everyday for $4/month. Sure if you wanted, you could hire someone to wipe your ass for not much more! But the strange thing, even though there are more people than jobs, the majority of low wage earners don't take their jobs seriously. The big problem... the "Indian Time" concept... if someone says they'll do something, they'll probably do it within a few hours but possibly the next day. Which means for help, you need a keep an extra person on staff to constantly manage the workers. Then there's usually a manager over the managers. And this even applies to a four table restaurant! The other big issue, is no matter how many times you tell them the way you want something done, they usually just do it the easiest way for them. But again, since there's so many available employees, it's super easy to replace people. Already had a waiter fired - the guy kept staring at me despite the owner telling him he can't do that. Next day the guy was gone. And the police officer that harassed me, his boss gave me the option of having him fired. (Said no, but did make him give me a humiliating apology. He'll never harass another woman!) And my personal servant on the boat, he was super great the first day, but everyday since he's gotten lazier & lazier. While I won't say anything to his boss, his tip's gonna be half what it should of been. India's economy is booming. But it'll never be a developed nation until all the workers learn at least a little of the Western work ethic. Tags: India |
